HQC supports the Ministry of Health with the implementation of strategy setting. This is the method Saskatchewan’s health system is using to set priorities, determine goals for the system, establish plans to achieve the agreed-upon goals locally and provincially, and measure progress toward these goals. The Ministry of Health leads the strategic planning process, and HQC works closely with the Ministry to ensure health system leaders have the data they need to inform decisions about continuous improvement goals for the province.
HQC supports the provincial strategic planning and improvement cycle by:
- Collaborating to assess how each priority area aligns with the province’s overall improvement priority – to achieve a 60% reduction in Emergency Department wait times by March 2019;
- Assisting with the visual display of data;
- Developing and maintaining key indicators such as hospitalization rates for chronic disease management, and patient connectedness to a family physician; and,
- Providing just-in-time training on using measurement, and on selecting, and prioritizing improvement work.
