Videos of Dr. Chris Simpson keynote, panel presentation now available

On November 19, the stakeholder group advising Saskatchewan’s Emergency Department Waits and Patient Flow Initiative met in Saskatoon.

The day featured a keynote presentation by Dr. Chris Simpson, president of the Wait Times Alliance and past president of the Canadian Medical Association, entitled Why Canada needs a national seniors strategy. In a panel presentation, Saskatchewan leaders and Dr. Simpson shared their perspectives on improving care delivery in the community, in hospital and within the emergency department.

New resource supports changes aimed at providing the right care in the right setting

Many Saskatchewan patients are still in hospital after they no longer require the intensity of service provided in this care setting. Often these patients remain in hospital because the type of care they do need is not available. This is one of several factors contributing to long waits in emergency departments.

HQC supports new campaign promoting family presence policy in hospitals

Saskatchewan’s Health Quality Council is supporting a new campaign encouraging Canadian hospitals to adopt policies that give family members or other caregivers unrestricted access to patients while they are hospitalized.

New resource aims to improve care coordination, communication in Saskatchewan health regions

A new resource developed by the province’s Health Quality Council is intended to help health care leaders, managers, and point of care staff use a practice called interdisciplinary rounding to ensure Saskatchewan patients are receiving the right care, in the right place, and by the right teams. It is the first module in a new Patient Flow Toolkit being developed as part of the provincial Emergency Department Waits and Patient Flow Initiative.

30 Days of Collective Change

Saskatchewan Change Day is almost here!

The second annual Saskatchewan Change Day will be celebrated on Nov. 5, 2015. To mark the final 30 days of the campaign, the Health Quality Council (HQC) has launched an initiative called 30 Days of Collective Change.

HQC researcher serves as principal investigator for hotspotting project

A team that includes two Health Quality Council (HQC) researchers has received funding for a project that will identify individuals who are frequently accessing health care services as a result of mental health and addictions issues.

HQC employees help make health care safer

A small team at the Health Quality Council (HQC) is focused on strengthening the culture of safety in all Saskatchewan health care environments and preventing potentially harmful situations from occurring.

HQC employees Kate Fast and Brendan Pikaluk make up the Safety Alert/Stop the Line Provincial Kaizen Operations Team (SA/STL PKOT), which is housed at HQC. Both have clinical backgrounds – Fast as a physical therapist and Pikaluk as an exercise therapist – and both are passionate about protecting the safety of patients and health care employees.

The Medical Post recognizes HQC board members

Two Health Quality Council (HQC) board members have received recognition in the latest edition of The Medical Post newspaper.

The Sept. 15, 2015, edition of the publication named HQC board chair Dr. Susan Shaw as one of 20 doctors to watch, while HQC board vice-chair Dr. Dennis Kendel was included on the publication’s list of 30 of the most powerful doctors in Canada.
