30 Days of Collective Change

Saskatchewan Change Day is almost here!

The second annual Saskatchewan Change Day will be celebrated on Nov. 5, 2015. To mark the final 30 days of the campaign, the Health Quality Council (HQC) has launched an initiative called 30 Days of Collective Change.

HQC researcher serves as principal investigator for hotspotting project

A team that includes two Health Quality Council (HQC) researchers has received funding for a project that will identify individuals who are frequently accessing health care services as a result of mental health and addictions issues.

HQC employees help make health care safer

A small team at the Health Quality Council (HQC) is focused on strengthening the culture of safety in all Saskatchewan health care environments and preventing potentially harmful situations from occurring.

HQC employees Kate Fast and Brendan Pikaluk make up the Safety Alert/Stop the Line Provincial Kaizen Operations Team (SA/STL PKOT), which is housed at HQC. Both have clinical backgrounds – Fast as a physical therapist and Pikaluk as an exercise therapist – and both are passionate about protecting the safety of patients and health care employees.

The Medical Post recognizes HQC board members

Two Health Quality Council (HQC) board members have received recognition in the latest edition of The Medical Post newspaper.

The Sept. 15, 2015, edition of the publication named HQC board chair Dr. Susan Shaw as one of 20 doctors to watch, while HQC board vice-chair Dr. Dennis Kendel was included on the publication’s list of 30 of the most powerful doctors in Canada.

Saskatchewan Change Day encourages health care improvements

Dr. Mark Wahba is making a small change that could have a big impact on his patients.

Wahba, an emergency physician who works in Saskatoon Health Region, made the following pledge for the second annual Saskatchewan Change Day campaign: “When I would like a patient to follow up with their family doctor after their ER visit, I’m going to call their doctor’s office and make the appointment for them.”

Patient and family advisor aims to improve health care

Diane Boulanger knows what it’s like to be a patient.

The Saskatchewan grandmother has experienced a number of medical procedures and issues – such as a mastectomy, hernia surgery and a collapsed lung – and has had a variety of experiences in the health care system. Some have been positive, while others were not.

Patient & Family Advisor Network grows

 Saskatchewan’s Patient & Family Advisor Network group, coordinated by the Health Quality Council (HQC), is continuing to grow and connect patient and family advisors throughout the province.

The group was initiated on Facebook in March 2015 and, since that time, 48 members have joined – and other Saskatchewan patient and family advisors are also welcome to participate.
