Report on evaluating Lean in Saskatchewan health care posted by University of Saskatchewan

An initial assessment of the use of Lean in Saskatchewan’s health care system, and proposed method for doing a more in-depth analysis was posted today to the University of Saskatchewan website. The report, entitled, “A First Phase Evaluation of Saskatchewan’s Lean Health Care Transformation: A Final Report,” was prepared by Dr. Thomas Rotter, Chair in Health Quality Improvement Science at the University of Saskatchewan, and a team of other academics at the university. Research was conducted between March 1, 2013 and May 31, 2014.

HQC issues Event Management RFP for the 2016 Quality Summit

The Health Quality Council (HQC) has posted a request for proposal (RFP) for event planning for the 2016 Saskatchewan Health Care Quality Summit. Interested applicants: Intent to Respond to the tender is due Friday February 5, 2016 and final proposals are due Thursday February 18, 2016.

HQC researchers join forces with multi-province MS medication study

According to the World Health Organization, around half of all people who are prescribed medication do not take it properly. Medication adherence is extremely important for the effective management of many chronic illnesses, including multiple sclerosis (MS).

New research supported by the Health Quality Council (HQC) has found medication adherence is actually quite high among MS patients in Manitoba and British Columbia, and is especially so in Saskatchewan.

Videos of Dr. Chris Simpson keynote, panel presentation now available

On November 19, the stakeholder group advising Saskatchewan’s Emergency Department Waits and Patient Flow Initiative met in Saskatoon.

The day featured a keynote presentation by Dr. Chris Simpson, president of the Wait Times Alliance and past president of the Canadian Medical Association, entitled Why Canada needs a national seniors strategy. In a panel presentation, Saskatchewan leaders and Dr. Simpson shared their perspectives on improving care delivery in the community, in hospital and within the emergency department.

New resource supports changes aimed at providing the right care in the right setting

Many Saskatchewan patients are still in hospital after they no longer require the intensity of service provided in this care setting. Often these patients remain in hospital because the type of care they do need is not available. This is one of several factors contributing to long waits in emergency departments.

HQC supports new campaign promoting family presence policy in hospitals

Saskatchewan’s Health Quality Council is supporting a new campaign encouraging Canadian hospitals to adopt policies that give family members or other caregivers unrestricted access to patients while they are hospitalized.

New resource aims to improve care coordination, communication in Saskatchewan health regions

A new resource developed by the province’s Health Quality Council is intended to help health care leaders, managers, and point of care staff use a practice called interdisciplinary rounding to ensure Saskatchewan patients are receiving the right care, in the right place, and by the right teams. It is the first module in a new Patient Flow Toolkit being developed as part of the provincial Emergency Department Waits and Patient Flow Initiative.
